A Blessing for Christmas

WomanPreach! Inc. believes deeply in womanism. We always strive to reach for those ethics, even if we do not land where we should. We reach for compassion, grace, and to let go, especially for the sake of Black women. Sometimes, things do not go as planned, and that's just fine. So, this evening, we offer you a simple prayer.

May your grief be met with quiet and peaceful darkness, room to breathe, and the comfort of a loving embrace. May your joy be contagious and leave a trail behind you.
May your solitude be for your recovery, safety, and health.
May your community be a solid rock you and find all you need to support each other.

If you are in the presence of people who do not love you for who you are, your pain matters.
If you are in the presence of people who do not love the people you know need love, your protest and example matter.
If you are surrounded by even one person who perceives you and calls what they perceive good, we thank God.

If you are isolated for the sake of your own health and others, we pray you recover quickly and that we all work to create a world where your body's new needs are fully supported.
If you are isolated because the world is not yet justly accessible, we hold ourselves accountable to remember you, remember ourselves, and demand that none of us be deemed disposable.

If you are relishing in new family, may all your ancestors rejoice and your future generations be blessed.
If you are missing family or grieving what you do not have, tears are ok on Christmas. Weeping and celebration are not enemies.

Whatever you have in abundance, share it. Whatever you need, may it be given to you freely out of love or reparations.

May we see each other more clearly and embrace our humanity as we remember the stories and traditions we celebrate tonight.

In love, in the name of Jesus, and in hope for the days ahead.
